Exceptional people in exceptional organisations refuse to choose between
performance and people...

If we want to be outstanding we must do five things to promote both people and performance:
• Get colleagues to trust us;
• Engage directly with colleagues;
• Maintain our focus and consistency of purpose;
• Build our collective leadership;
• Foster and nurture our shared purpose.

It's as always about ownership, engagement, passion and belief. Simple really.

Not sure that 'getting colleagues to trust us' quite captures what is required.

Acting consistently and fairly in pursuit of stated objectives might just provide the basis on which trust can be built...

I think school management/bureaucracy needs to learn much about trusting others before it will be more trusted

Hi Mike,
I understand your point but surely the only way colleagues will release their potential is if we trust and empower them to release their magic. Command and control simply produces medioce outcomes beacuse people don't really care or believe in what they are doing. The real problem is fear and OFSTED, DCSF et all thrive on it!
